Winter Camp at Powhatan

Purpose & Objectives

Earn up to 3 of 25 available merit badges and enjoy an exciting winter camping experience! There are also adult programs available.

Who Can Participate

All scouts and adults registered with Troop 29.

Camping Location

This will be hosted at Camp Powhatan, a part of the BRMC Scout Reservation. Accommodations will be in the front campsites: Rock Ridge, Tipi, and Cherokee. Site will be assigned to our troop upon check-in.

Planned Activities

Approximately 25 different merit badges are being offered, plus adult training programs, campfire nights, and a cooking competition!

Departure & Return

Depart:
12:30pm on Friday, January 2nd from Boonsboro Food Lion. Eat lunch beforehand, and we'll eat supper together in Dublin/Pulaski before we head up to base camp.

Return:
5–6 PM on Sunday, January 4th to Boonsboro Food Lion

Paperwork & Preparation

All participants must submit BSA Health Forms (Parts A and B only, Part C is NOT required). Download the forms.

How Much It Costs

  • $75 per scout

  • $50 per adult

  • Other program-specific fees
    (details in leader’s guide)

  • If you are an adult taking Wilderness First Aid, do not pay your $120 fee to Troop 29. That fee will be paid directly to the trainer at camp.

  • Payments will be collected by check made to “Troop 29” and are due to Treasurer Jonathan Fredericks (or Scoutmaster Manley) by Monday, December 15th.

Packing Info

  • See the Winter Camp Leader’s Guide for packing list

  • Scout Meals: Dining hall meals provided; bring ingredients for cooking competition if participating.

  • Adult Meals: Same arrangement as scouts.

  • Tents: Bring your own tent.

  • Trailer: TBD. The troop trailer may not be needed unless we need to bring a lot of cooking equipment.

  • Water: Available on site.

  • Weather: Cold conditions; bring warm clothing and cold weather sleeping gear.

  • Safety: Main concern is dressing warmly and following staff instructions to ensure safety in each program.
